Ex- Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor has been charged with performing sexual assaults involving 38 victims who were patients.

Details of the Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.

A senior CPS official stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Investigation

The charges come after what investigators called a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences include:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
