Citizens have gathered around the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a resolution to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership delayed formal commemorations until 16 October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but events still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was observed around the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams met in the North African Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A senior delegate knowledgeable about the discussions revealed that an night meeting of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The source stated the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but pointed out that mediators are striving to reduce the gaps between the two sides.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The trade of the hostages still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war governance of the area

Civilian Feeling

In the city's memorial area earlier, young a woman - whose brother survived the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place appears as home now and until each abducted person return not a single person will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can commence heal," she concluded.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their backing for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel says 48 continue in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev remarked: "We must do any agreement required for the abducted to be released. But we truly desire assurances that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of Israelis desire the conflict to conclude in as payment for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the area of the music event, those paying respects came together to honor the dead.

From the site, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, bombardments were reported in the dawn of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and zone areas and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"Once the evening arrives, the dread comes with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, explained.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, particularly my youngest child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the fighting will return to us."

Medical Emergency

The medical facility in Gaza City announced it had taken in the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis reported another two fatalities had been transported. A person was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get assistance to the southern area, medical staff said.

Gaza's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
