Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
