Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
Now that Season 1 of the hit series wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
On the Incredible Audience Reaction
One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It's like being force fed hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”
“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.
A Pressing Query: Will the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?
So if the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.
“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a decent plan for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.
“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”
Alternatively, why not reference the iconic TV endings?
“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
